Irv Gotti, born Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr. on June 26, 1970, in Hollis, Queens, New York, was a pivotal figure in the hip-hop industry. He co-founded Murder Inc. Records in 1998, a label that became synonymous with chart-topping hits and influential artists. Gotti’s production prowess and business acumen played a significant role in shaping the sound of early 2000’s hip-hop and R&B.
Gotti’s journey in music began in the mid-1990s when he produced tracks for artists like Mic Geronimo. His talent soon caught the attention of major industry players, leading to collaborations with Jay-Z and DMX. But, it was the establishment of Murder Inc. Records that solidified his legacy. Under his leadership, the label introduced and nurtured talents including Ja Rule and Ashanti. They delivered hits like “Always on Time” and “Foolish.” These songs dominated the charts.

Beyond his work with Murder Inc., Gotti collaborated with artists like Jennifer Lopez and Fat Joe. This extended his influence and cemented his status as a sought-after producer. He blended gritty hip-hop beats with melodic R&B hooks. This created a signature sound that resonated with a broad audience.
